Though the spectacle of fireworks brings joy to adults and children alike, it is important to take a few precautions to ensure that your Fourth of July celebrations are memorable for the right reasons. We want to provide you with a few tips to keep you and your family safe over the holiday.
Understand and obey local ordinances and burn bans.
Always supervise children including teenagers when lighting fireworks.
Use fireworks in outdoor settings away from buildings, vehicles, dry brush, and flammable materials.
Only light a single firework at a time, since various fireworks may use different lengths of fuses.
Never relight defective fireworks or light fireworks in your hand. These may detonate before you can move safely away.
Dispose of firework waste by wetting down with water and placing it in a refuse receptacle away from buildings and combustible materials.
Report illegal fireworks like M-80s and cherry bombs to your local fire department. Be advised that stick and bottle rockets are unlawful in the State of Oklahoma.
Avoid bringing pets to firework displays.
